Objectives
1. Understand concepts related to information systems, 2. Distinguish between OLTP and OLAP systems, 3. Develop business apps with Power Apps, 4. Use Artificial Intelligence resources in business information systems, 5. Incorporate Mixed Reality solutions into organizational processes.

A) Fundamentals of Information Systems (IS):
- Concept and components of an IS;
- The role of IS in organizations;
- Types of Information Systems;
B) Business-Oriented Data Architectures (OLTP vs. OLAP):
- OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) systems;
- OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) systems;
- ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes;
C) Enterprise Application Development with Power Apps:
- Introduction to the Microsoft Power Platform ecosystem;
- Types of Applications;
- Data Connectivity;
- Logic and Interface;
D) Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business Information Systems:
- Practical applications of AI in business;
- Low-Code AI tools (e.g., AI Builder);
E) Mixed Reality (MR) Applied to Organizational Processes:
- Concepts of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR);
- Business use cases;
- Mixed Reality components in Power Apps.
Evaluation Methodology
The course assessment consists of completing an integrated practical project (70%), regular online activities (challenges, discussions 15%), and an online project defense (15%). The final grade for the course is the weighted average of the various assessment components. Students obtain a passing grade in the course and are exempt from the exam, in accordance with Points 11 and 12 of Article 11 of the Academic Regulations of the Polytechnic University of Tomar (UPT). The exam/resit exam assessment consists of completing a practical project (100%). Students obtain a passing grade in the course, in accordance with Points 11 and 12 of Article 11 of the Academic Regulations of the UPT.
