Objectives
Know the fundamental principles and techniques of excavation work at archaeological sites.

Apply practical methodologies for excavation, field analysis, and the treatment of archaeological finds.

Acquire skills in documenting and recording data collected during excavations.

Know the key stages of laboratory work, including the analysis of artifacts and data interpretation.

Apply laboratory techniques for the conservation and study of archaeological materials recovered.

Acquire hands-on experience in handling specialized equipment used in excavations and laboratory analyses.

Know the methodological challenges involved in studying prehistoric sites in the region.

Apply knowledge of the temporal and cultural context of archaeological findings.

Acquire competencies in organizing and preparing technical reports on excavation results.

Program
Introduction to Archaeological Excavation: Basic concepts and goals; types of excavation; field strategies
Field Techniques, Recording, and GIS: Manual and mechanical excavation methods; context recording (forms, drawings, photography); use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Lab Work: Sorting and Cataloging: Initial processing of finds; classification and documentation; database organization and management
Laboratory: Conservation and Material Analysis: Cleaning and preservation techniques; treatment of lithic, ceramic, and organic materials; analytical methods for characterization
Case Study: Prehistoric Site: Site history and previous interventions; application of excavation and analysis methods in a real context
Cultural and Chronological Context: Regional prehistory overview; interpretation of findings within cultural and temporal frameworks
Preparation of Technical Reports: Structure and content of reports; standards and formats for official documentation

Evaluation Methodology
Design a research or intervention plan for an archaeological site, region or archaeological collection (preferably related with the topic of the first interdisciplinary essay)
