Objectives
Students should be able to:
-Demonstrate conceptual and operational skills to understand the context of governance and act to promote tourism development at national/regional/local levels.
Understand the importance of tourism as an activity that promotes national/regional and local development.
-Recognize the process of tourism development and critically analyze the different space-time development models of national, regional and local destinations.
-Understand innovation and the creation of knowledge as key instruments for the development of tourist destinations, at a time when strong competition prevails within the tourist market.
-Analyze tourism development in Portugal, based on the analysis of the skills and functions of the main national players in that industry.
-Know the various community policies and instruments for territorial cohesion to promote tourism.

2.Public tourism policies: the role and intervention of the State in tourism.
3.Community policies to promote tourism.
4. Cooperation and partnerships in tourism: public management and the private sector.
5. Tourism and regional development
6.The local dimension of tourism.
7. The issue of spatial imbalances.
8.Tourism, urban redevelopment and rural regeneration.
9.Tourism management in mountain areas and coastal areas.
Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment includes a written test that corresponds to 50% of the final grade and also the preparation of two group works (with a weighting of 25% each) that will correspond to the remaining 50% of the final grade in continuous assessment.
1. Continuous Assessment:
1.1. Test 50% of the final grade (the student must have a grade higher than 8 points);
1.2. Assignments (in groups): two practical Assignments each weighing 25% of the final grade;
2. Assessment by exam:
2.1. The grade in the written exam is equivalent to 50% of the final grade. Minimum grade of 8/20.
2.2. The coursework requested as part of continuous assessment will count towards the final assessment (50% in the final exam grade). Minimum grade for both components is 8/20.
